Czas Future Continuous tworzymy za pomocą operatora “will”, czasownika “be” oraz orzeczenia z końcówką -ing. Wygląda on identycznie dla wszystkich osób gramatycznych.

Zdania przeczące w czasie Future Continuous
Przeczenia w czasie Future Continuous tworzymy poprzez dodanie “not” do operatora (w formie skróconej “will not” zmienia się w “won’t”):

- We won’t be waiting outside.
This time tomorrow I won’t be sitting at work.
Jane won’t be helping her mother this afternoon.

Kiedy używać czasu Future Continuous?
Jak mogłeś zauważyć powyżej, struktura czasu Future Continuous nie jest zbyt skomplikowana. Podobnie jest z jego zastosowaniem. Oto sytuacje, w których powinieneś go użyć:
- mówiąc o czynnościach, które będą odbywały się w określonym momencie w przyszłości; tego typu zdania tłumaczone są na język polski trybem niedokonanym, ponieważ nie ma informacji o ich zakończeniu,
- This time on Sunday I will be giving a speech at the conference. - O tej porze w niedzielę będę przemawiał na konferencji.
- kiedy mówimy o czynnościach, które będą odbywały się w przyszłości i jest to pewne, ponieważ jest to czynność zwyczajowa/powtarzalna,
- My parents will be working in the garden on Sunday. - Moi rodzice będą pracować w ogrodzie w niedzielę. Użycie czasu Future Continuous sugeruje, że tak zwykle spędzają niedzielę.
- wyrażając przypuszczenia o czynnościach odbywających się w chwili mówienia,
- There’s no point phoning them now. They will be driving to work. - Nie ma sensu dzwonić do nich teraz. (Jestem pewien, że) jadą do pracy.
- pytając o plany innych osób na najbliższą przyszłość, często jest to uprzejmy wstęp do jakiejś prośby,
- Will you be going to the supermarket today? I need a few things.

Future Simple vs Future Continuous
- decyzje podjęte w chwili mówienia, bez wcześniejszego planowania: Wait! I’ll help you!
- przewidywania na przyszłość: I think Donald Trump will win the next election as well.
- obietnice i groźby: Touch my laptop again and you will regret it!
- prośby w formie pytań: Will you help me with cleaning, please?
Future Perfect Simple a Future Continuous
- czynności, które w pewnym momencie w przyszłości będą już zakończone: She will have written the email by noon.
- wyrażanie przypuszczenia, że dana czynność została już wykonana: The plane will have landed.
- określenie jaki okres czasu upłynie w danym momencie w przyszłości od kiedy rozpoczęła się dana czynność lub stan: Her parents will have lived in Florida for ten years next month.
Future Perfect Continuous vs Future Continuous
- mówiąc, że w pewnym momencie w przyszłości upłynie jakiś okres, w którym dana czynność ma miejsce: They will have been swimming for an hour soon.
Present Simple vs Future Continuous
- rozkłady jazdy, programy, nawet jeśli mówimy o przyszłości: The plane takes off in ten minutes.
Present Continuous a Future Continuous
- czynności zaplanowane na najbliższą, określoną przyszłość: My husband and I are going to the cinema on Saturday.
To be going to
- mówiąc o zamiarach i intencjach: We are going to buy a new car. Konstrukcję “to be going to” tłumaczy się w tym kontekście za pomocą czasownika “zamierzać”.
- wyrażając przewidywania oparte na tym, co widzimy, słyszymy lub wiemy: Look at those cars! They are going to crash!
To be about to do STH
- wyrażenia tego używamy odniesieniu do bardzo bliskiej przyszłości, kiedy dana czynność ma się za chwilę wydarzyć: Hurry up! We are about to start eating.

When should Future Continuous be used?
How to speak about the future in English so that everybody understands you well? You can choose from not less than four future tenses: Future Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect Simple and Future Perfect Continuous, there are also two handy structures: ‘to be going to” and “to be about to”, as well as two present tenses used to express future actions: Present Simple and Present Continuous. As the saying goes: store is no sore, however eight different grammar structures may be a bit overwhelming… Don’t panic, it’s not that complicated! In our today’s post we are going to analyse Future Continuous.
Future Continuous - the structure
Future Continuous tense is constructed by means of the auxiliary verb “will”, the verb “be” and a verb that takes the -ing ending. It is identical for all grammar persons.
POSITIVE SENTENCES:
Positive sentences in Future Continuous tense are built in the following way:
subject + will + be + verb+ing
eg. We will be waiting outside.
This time tomorrow I’ll be flying to Madrid.
Jane will be looking after her younger sister as always on Saturday morning.
NEGATIVE SENTENCES
Negative sentences in Future Continuous tense are made by adding “not” to the auxiliary verb (in the short form “will not” turns into “won’t”):
subject + will + not + be + verb+ing
eg. We won’t be waiting outside.
This time tomorrow I won’t be sitting at work.
Jane won’t be helping her mother this afternoon.
QUESTIONS
Questions in Future Continuous tense are created by means of inversion - it means that the subject and the auxiliary verb switch places:
(Wh-) will + subject + be + verb+ing
eg. What will you be doing tonight?
Will you be sunbathing this time on Saturday?
Will you be going to the shops later?
When should Future Continuous be used?
As you could see above the structure of Future Continuous is not too complex. Its usage is as simple. These are the situations when you should use it:
- when you talk about situations that will be in progress at a specific moment of time in the future; there’s no information about the completion of the action and in Polish imperfect aspect would be used,
eg. This time on Sunday I will be giving a speech at the conference.
- when you talk about future actions and you are sure that they will take place because they are habitual/repetitive,
eg. My parents will be working in the garden on Sunday. Future Continuous suggests that this is the usual way they spend Sundays.
- expressing predictions about actions in progress at the moment of speaking,
eg. There’s no point phoning them now. They will be driving to work.
- asking other people about their plans for the nearest future, very often it’s just a polite introduction to asking them a favour,
eg. Will you be going to the supermarket today? I need a few things.
Future Continuous and other future tenses
It’s good to remember in what situations other future tenses and structures may be applied.
FUTURE SIMPLE
- decisions made at the moment of speaking, with no planning beforehand: Wait! I’ll help you!-
-predictions for the future: I think Donald Trump will win the next election as well.- promises and threats: Touch my laptop again and you will regret it!
- requests in the form of questions: Will you help me with cleaning, please?
FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE
- actions that will be completed at a stated time in the future: She will have written the email by noon.
- expressing a supposition that the action has already been completed: The plane will have landed.
- stating what period of time will have passed in the given moment in the future since the beginning of the action or state: Her parents will have lived in Florida for ten years next month.
FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
- saying that at some moment in the future a specific period of time will have passed in which the action has been taking place: They will have been swimming for an hour soon.
PRESENT SIMPLE
- timetables, programmes, agendas, even though you are referring to the future: The plane takes off in ten minutes.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
- actions arranged for the nearest specified future: My husband and I are going to the cinema on Saturday.
TO BE GOING TO
- expressing intentions: We are going to buy a new car.
- expressing predictions based on what you see, hear or know: Look at those cars! They are going to crash!
TO BE ABOUT TO DO STH
- this expressions is used to talk about actions in the immediate future, almost starting: Hurry up! We are about to start eating.
